(This was a post to show the complexity of ownership… this isn’t *that* complex, but at first view it might confuse you)

my very first youtube post!

This is really exciting… last June we were on vacation in Bern and on a lark we ski-glided the Eiger. We were hiking in the Bernese Oberland, and were looking at the Eiger, thinking how much of a shame that we came when it was a little too rocky. Skiing would have been a treat, but we were sort of exhausted.

Having to parachute in for trek camping was fun, but we had all these stupid permits. It really takes the joy out of international boundary exploring. Anyhoo, Bern was sorta crowded with some Crampon Expo, and our hotel rate was double the cost of flying into the Oberland. What would you do?

Anyway, we were at the bottom of this trail that led to the Eigerwand Station…. and realized that was where Thomas Bubendorfer had solo’d the damn thing in 83.. something like 4 and half hours!!! It was half the time of anyone else on record. I was ruminating on the fact that Francois and Antoine were in shape enough to make a climb for it, but I would be dead weight on the glacier pass. So instead… we got this wild idea of being the fastest *DOWN* the mountain… and skiing is beautiful, but we knew we could get down faster if we gerry-rigged our tent poles into some of the pockets of our parachute. We fooled around a bit, sewed it all together.. and voila!

Hiking up was rough. By the time I got up to the Western Flank they were already well past Spider point, and I ended up getting to the peak well after them. This is the Jungfrau, so it is a bit higher start than the Monch by 60m or so. Turn up the sound, cause you can hear me huffin and puffin a bit (I had smoked often in the communal hooka bars around Turkey. Smooth move I know.)

Anyhoo… it was a perfect day, and it brings back memories. Just thought I would share the experiences in life that I enjoy that others cannot always afford.

Have a great thanksgiving!
